The Undeniable Power Of SEO

SEO or Search Engine Optimization is a powerful resource for digital marketing.

Here is some technical advice from an SEO Expert Consultant, Peter Jimenez

A website you build might look really flashy and pack in a lot of features, but ask yourself an honest question here: What good are all those bells and whistles doing if nobody's even visiting your site? This is the problem you're going to have unless you address the issue of SEO, so bone up on your skills and get your website ranked in Google now.

When setting up a page for SEO, avoid the temptation to set up text or links specifically to manipulate search engines. For example, text that is the same color as the page background, text that is invisibly tiny, or links that are only a few pixels wide, will set off alarms at the search engine. These "black hat" methods can get your site banned entirely from the listings.

Set forums and blog comments to automatically insert the nofollow attribute into any links users create. Forum and comment spam are a constant problem, and setting nofollow on discussion pages prevents spammers from harming your own site's rank by linking to spam sites that sell dodgy products and services.

Use your strongest keywords in your site's name, in the sub-folders, and in the page names. This will help your site, as well as individual pages, rank more strongly. Search engines will give relevant pages high rank, and you can link those pages to others in your site. All of this strengthens your entire site and helps it to rank.

Learn how to promote using social media optimization. Simply posting links to your company website is not advertising - it is spam. Providing content as a reason to visit your website is much more effective, and it also allows consumers to feel as though you are interested in their personal wants and needs.

Do not be too general with your keywords. These are what will bring readers to your site, so you want to be specific. If you are talking about backpacking through Tahiti, you do not want your keyword to be "travel." There are thousands of travel sites, and yours will definitely not get the attention it deserves.

A popular way to optimize your search engine results is to use Google AdWord's own keyword tool. Using it, you can examine what keywords people are using to search for specific things. With this data, you can then begin adjusting your own keywords to match what others are using, to generate more hits.

If you are going to make progress on your search engine visibility, you are going to have to continually work at it. The tactics to get to the top of the search engine are constantly changing, so you are going to have to stay on top of all of the new techniques and processes.

A great program to implement in your search engine optimization is the Yahoo! Buzz Index. This tool, as its name suggests, allows you to view how popular or relevant your keywords and keyword phrases are at any given moment in time. This is great for selecting keywords you know people will search for, increasing the traffic for your page.

Add a site map to your site. By putting a site map on your site, which a page listing that links to all the main pages on your site, it will make it easier for the search engine spiders to search through your site. It is best to require fewer clicks to get to a page on your website.

When working on search engine optimization, you must place appropriate keywords throughout every part of your site. Keywords must be in your titles, content, image names, and URLs. The page header and the title tags are the two most crucially important places to place your keywords. Be careful, however, putting too many keywords on your site will get your site labeled as spam.

Using words like "photo", "image", or "picture" in the ALT text on your IMG tags can help target searchers to your site. People will often search for a keyword plus one of those three words to try to find the graphic they're looking for. Bring them to your site and provide the information!

When optimizing your website for search engines, it is important you make one or two changes at a time. If you do too much at once you won't be able to tell which change affected your Page Rank negatively or positively, and it's also possible to have both good and bad changes which cancel each other out, confusing you even further.

If you're going to post a video to YouTube, make sure that your website's URL shows up at one of the points that are used to create the thumbnail for the video. Those points are approximately one quarter, one half, and three-quarters of the way through the video, so have it appear at least once during those times.

When shortening links to your website, make certain that you are using URL shortening services that give the link credit to your website rather than to the shortening service. Inbound links are an integral part of search engine optimization. So whenever you post a link to your website on a forum, Twitter, Facebook, or anywhere else on the Internet, make sure that your website is getting the credit! The proper way that a shortening service should link to your website is through a 301 redirect.

If you want to optimize your search engine, please avoid Flash whenever necessary. Flash may make your site look pretty, but it forces you to use frames and makes a particular page linking practically impossible. Which will, in the end, cause your individual page rankings to decrease. If you simply can't live without Flash, make it your main centerfold page on your webpage and avoid it on all your individual pages.

Effective SEO tactics will not require a high level of skill or even a whole lot of effort. What's important is that you take the right approach. As you learn about SEO, you will find that a few minor tweaks can equate to big results. Get started on your optimization by using what you've learned here.
